Ambati Rayudu

According to recent reports emerging from BCCI, the veteran Indian international Ambati Rayudu is all set to return to the domestic tournament. The reports state that the former Hyderabad player is set to don the jersey of their arch-rivals, Andhra Pradesh, in the upcoming tournament. Ambati Rayudu also received the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Hyderabad board recently. Previously, the player was evicted and snubbed from the Hyderabad team after ICC World Cup 2019. Owing to the neglect, the player had announced his retirement from all formats of the game.

In a pandemic hit season, the player had just featured in the IPL held in the United Arab Emirates. After the glamourous and cash-rich league, BCCI are planning to conduct the first-ever domestic tournament of the 2020-21 season. With BCCI planning to conduct IPL Auction for IPL-14 in January or February, the domestic T20 tournament is given priority. Before the Ranji Trophy, BCCI will hold Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament in six cities and Ambati Rayudu will be a part of the tournament. The Hyderabad-born player will don the Andhra Pradesh jersey after he got the NOC.

Ambati Rayudu swapping the loyalties: A Long story short

Ambati Rayudu had come out of retirement in 2019 and featured in Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament and Vijay Hazare trophy. However, the player lashed out at the Hyderabad team management and opted out of Ranji Trophy. The right-hand batsman was sceptical about the politics in the Hyderabad team and said to Telangana Today:

“There is a lot of politics in the team, and the atmosphere is not conducive for good cricket. I felt very uncomfortable”

After a disastrous IPL in 2020 for both himself and the team, Rayudu will look to shrug off the past with fine performances. Apart from Ambati Rayudu, all-rounder B Sandeep also opted to play for Goa and sought the transfer. Karnataka will look to retain the title in the 2020/21 season too, with star players returning to the side.
