‘Captain Cool’ lost his temper for the first time in 20 years, Says Kuldeep Yadav

Former Indian Cricket team captain MS Dhoni is known as ‘Captain Cool’. He is regarded to never get angry or lose his temper on-field. However, Kuldeep Yadav recalled the India vs Sri Lanka match in 2017, where Dhoni lost his temper for the first time in past 20 years.

“Kusal (Perera) smashed a boundary over the covers. Dhoni Bhai shouted from behind the wickets and asked me to change the fielding. I did not listen to his suggestion and next ball, Kusal hit another boundary with a reverse sweep,” Kuldeep told sports anchor Jatin Sapru during an Instagram chat.

After not changing positions of the players, he came forward and exclaim very hard on me, said Kuldeep.

“…angry Dhoni came up to me and said, ”main pagal hu? 300 one-day Khela hoon, aur samjha Raha hoon yahaan pe.’ (Am I mad? I have played 300 ODIs and you are not listening to me).”

So scared was the Kuldeep that he went up to Dhoni in the team bus to apologise. He asked if he had ever lost his composure like this in the past.

“I was so scared of him that day. After the match, I went up to him in the team bus and asked if he ever got angry. he replied: ’20 saal se gussa Nahi Kiya hai (I have never been angry in the last 20 years.),” Kuldeep said.

Dhoni has not played since India’s semifinal exit from the ODI World Cup last year. He was expected to play in the WC T20 in Indian squad on the basis of the 13th edition of the IPL. However, the IPL has been indefinitely postponed due to COVID 19 pandemic.
