Champions League Match Day 4 | Premier League

The Matchday 3 was really a positive outing for all the Premier League clubs in the Champions League. However, in Matchday 4 it was kind of a mixed bag for the Premier League sides. The good part is neither of the 4 sides were defeated and are well on course to make it to the next stages of the compitition.

Champions League | Group E

Liverpool welcomed Belgian side Genk at Anfield, who are not really doing well in domestic competition. The hosts got off to a good start as midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum scored from close range in the 14th minute. The visitors pulled one back through Mbwana Samata to make it 1-1 as both sides went into the Half Time break. A really entertaining half and all to play for in the second half. Liverpool took the lead again by a well taken goal from Oxalade-Chamberlain after some good work by Salah on the right. The final scoreline remained the same as Alisson made some smart saves to deny Genk. With this win Liverpool move to top of Group E, 1 point ahead of second placed Napoli who played a 1-1 draw against Red Bull Salzburg.

Champions League | Group H

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea welcomed last season Champions League semi finalists Ajax to the Stamford Bridge. Two young sides, full of talent and the game certainly lived up to all the expections. Chelsea made a dramatic comeback coming behind from 4-1 to make it 4-4. We have done a detailed analysis of the game as well. Both of them sit equal on 7 points with Ajax on top due to their superior goal difference.

Champions League | Group B

Tottenham bounced back from their 1-1 draw against Everton which received a lot of media coverage due to Andre Gomes injury and subsequent red card for Hueng-Min Son. The South Korean was on fire as he scored twice and assisted another as Tottenham won comprehensively against Serbian side Crevna Zvezda. New signing Lo Celso and outcast Christian Eriksen scored the other two goals as Spurs moved to 2nd position in Group B.

Champions League | Group C

The last English club on action was Manchester City as they they travelled to Italy to face Atlanta. Gabriel Jesus scored early and missed a penalty during the later stages of first half. Goalkeeper Ederson Moraes suffered a slight injury and was replaced by Claudio Bravo. The Chile International was shown a straight red card in the 81st minute as Pep Guardiola brought in right back Kyle Walker as goal keeper. Atlanta were unable to take advantage of the makeshift Goalkeeper as the game finished 1-1. With this point, Manchester City became the first English side to make it to the Round of 16.

That’s all from the Champions League, premier league clubs perspective. We will make another post after the Europa League fixtures are done.

~ Until Next Time!
