Hardik Pandya to play in DY Patil T20 Tournament

Hardik Pandya unlikely for New Zealand Tests

Fit-again India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to return to the field. While India is having a tough time in New Zealand, this comes as good news back home.

Hardik suffered a bad lower back injury five months ago and underwent surgery in London. Due to this, he has been out of action for a long time now. However, he is now set to return as he will appear in the DY Patil T20 Tournament in Mumbai. Hardik will feature for Reliance1 in the DY Patil T20 Tournament. Reliance1 will play three games, on February 25, 28 and May 3 in the league stage. They shall also play three games in the knockouts.

Yes, his name is there in the team list for Reliance1. He will play in the DY Patil T20, provided the National Cricket Academy (NCA, in Bengaluru, where he’s currently recuperating from his injury) releases him,” a source informed.

The Reliance 1 (team) would be represented by players like Hardik Pandya, Bhuvaneshvar Kumar, Shikhar Dhawan,” said Dr Vijay Patil, President, D Y Patil Sports Academy and also the President of Mumbai Cricket Association at a press briefing here.

A total of 16 teams will vie for the trophy with the final set to be held on March 6.

The comeback opportunity for Hardik Pandya

Hardik last played for India in a T20I against South Africa in September. He was set to tour New Zealand with India A and make a comeback in the ongoing tour. However, a prolonged recovery process meant Hardik was ruled out of the kiwi tour as well.

The national selectors are now likely to visit the DY Patil Stadium. They will track Pandya’s progress since coming back from injury. If Hardik can prove his fitness, he will be picked for the three-match ODI series against South Africa. The series will  begin on March 12 at Dharamshala.
