Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is having decent tournaments after their first IPL win in 2016 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. SRH’s execution of plans has always been their advantage factor as they have performed exceptionally well. In 2019 season, they missed a bunch of their marques at the latter half of the season due to World Cup calls.
However, in IPL 2020, they would like to go all the way in order to seal the cup once again. And also, we haven’t included Shakib Al Hasan in the following. Since he is already serving the ban and it is almost certain that SRH will let him go.
Let’s take a look at three players who might be released by SRH this season
1. Martin Guptill
The 33-year-old Kiwi batsman hasn’t performed in the way which can rubberstamp his credentials in IPL. And his time at SRH hasn’t been something to cherish either. In the last season, Guptill had played three matches and scored 81 runs. His highest score was 36 runs. He had a strike rate of 137.5.
Since Guptill is an overseas player, SRH would like to release him in order to make some challenging bid at the upcoming auction. However, David Warner and Johnny Bairstow will open for SRH next season and they are going to be available for the whole tournament. For the same reason, they might target for an overseas all-rounder at the IPL 2020 auction.
2. Yusuf Pathan
Yusuf Pathan might be on the doors of exit at SRH for the upcoming IPL season. Before he became a part of SRH, Pathan was a crucial man for KKR back in the day. In IPL he has a total of 3,204 runs and 42 wickets to his name. In the last season, Pathan played ten matches and scored only 40 runs to his name. Pathan was bought for INR 1.9 Crores which was a little over his base price.
However, he failed in his first season with SRH and also, in 2019 season his performance was the same. With young talents emerging well in the domestic circuit, SRH will be looking to rope in younger talents. Sunrisers Hyderabad will be looking at talents who can make an impact and benefit the team. It is almost likely that SRH will say adiós to Yusuf Pathan.
3. Basil Thampi
Kerala pacer made his mark at IPL in 2017 season of IPL where he played for Gujarat Lions. He had picked up 11 wickets in 12 matches with an economy of 9.49 won him the emerging star of the season award in 2017. In 2019 season Thampi got to play 3 matches in which he failed to pick-up even a single wicket.
The young pacer had a forgettable night at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium 2018 IPL season where he got an unwanted record of worst bowling figures in IPL. Surprisingly that record was previously held by Ishant Sharma, who, while playing for Sunrisers as well, conceded 66 runs off four overs against Chennai Super Kings in the 2013 edition of the tournament.
Since there are many pacers in Sunrisers Hyderabad squad it will be tough for Basil Thampi to hold his place. For the same SRH might say good-bye to the 26-year-old pacer.
