IPL 2020: Challengers face the Knight Riders in their season opener fixture

Royal Challengers Bangalore to host Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening fixture at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

A new look Royal Challengers Bangalore kick-off their campaign against the Knight Riders on the 31st March at their home, M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the appointment of the Trans-Tasman duo have provided right contour to the roster and they will be eager to make amends. In a bid to start the decade with a fresh approach, the Bengaluru based franchise had something in store for their fans. The franchise unveiled a new logo and the attire for the upcoming season of the two-month-long cricket extravaganza which made the fans go gaga over the social media platforms.

After a gig at the IPL auction, Mike Hesson and Simon Katich were quite happy with the proceedings after having acquired the services of Aaron Finch, Chris Morris and Dale Steyn who might play an important role in guiding the team to new heights.

We want someone who takes off the pressure from AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, so we’ve got a world-class player [Aaron Finch],” Mike Hesson after the acquisition of Aaron Finch.

The Challengers acquired six overseas and two uncapped domestic players. Kohli’s men will look to end the trophy drought this year, a long-awaited dream for their fans who have been staunch supporters of the side through systole and diastole.

Challengers Knight Riders

Last time when the Knight Riders faced the Challengers here at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Andre Russell stole the limelight and his whirlwind knock steered the Knight Riders to victory from the jaws of defeat. Come March 31st, Royal Challengers Bangalore will be keen to avenge their last year’s loss and will also be eager to start the campaign with a win at their home.

The Challengers have always had the reputation of unearthing talents right from the initial years of the IPL – Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey, Mayank Agarwal, Yuzvendra Chahal, KL Rahul and Navdeep Saini to name a few. It will be interesting to see how the southpaw from Karnataka shoulders the responsibility of RCB’s batting line-up after having scored over 1,600 runs in the Indian Domestic season. Devdutt Padikkal’s purple patch with the willow was instrumental in guiding Karnataka to successive victories in two of India’s high profile limited-overs domestic tournament – Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament.
