Indian Premier League (IPL) is stage to make a huge presence like every year franchisees are making impressive gains with sponsorship deals despite a global economic downfall. The 13th edition of IPL is a couple of months away and the franchisees are taking significant decisions over their brand endorsements.
A number of franchisees are in a stitched-niche bond with their sponsors of last year and those deals have raised at a premium over 50% compared to that of last years. Meanwhile, others have taken a step further and made some key changes which drastically has increased their gains in terms of sponsorship deals for IPL 2020.
Four franchisees will have an extended run with their title sponsors from last year whereas, the other four have struck the deals with new sponsors.
Chennai Super Kings – Muthoot Finance
The three-time champions of IPL and one of the most successful franchise will be continuing their run with Muthoot Finance as title sponsor for the upcoming season.
Delhi Capitals – Daikin
Delhi is one of the three franchises which has not got its hands on the coveted IPL trophy yet. After rebranding, last season Delhi Capitals has developed a huge fanbase and they looked better than ever before.
The Delhi-based side will be continuing their relationship with Daikin and as a result, it will remain as their title sponsor for the upcoming season.
Kings XI Punjab – Ebix Cash
Kings XI Punjab who finalised their sponsor at the last moment in 2019 has found Ebix Cash as their new title sponsor. And they will be gaining at a premium of over 75% than last year.
The reason for such a high amount of gain is might perhaps be because of the inclusion of Anil Kumble and quite a few others who have established a good marketing brand for themselves.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Nokia
Kolkata Knight Riders is one among the four franchises who have retained their existing sponsors for the 2020 season. Nokia remains as Kolkata based side’s title sponsor for IPL 2020.
Mumbai Indians – Samsung
The four-time IPL champions, defending champions Mumbai Indians like Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, has also has retained its title sponsor. As a result, Samsung Mobile will be seen on Mumbai Indians’ jersey as the title sponsor in IPL 2020.
Rajasthan Royals – World Expo
Rajasthan Royals who had JK Lakshmi Cements as their title sponsor last season has found their new sponsors in the form of World Expo 2020 Dubai. This deal gives a massive gain of more than 100% premium on what they were earning last season.
The one-year deal will see the World Expo appear on the front of the Rajasthan Royals’ jersey. The deal, above INR 25 crores according to sources, is the highest team title in the history of the IPL.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – Muthoot Blue
The Indian captain led side Royal Challengers Bangalore was the last team to get their title sponsorship deal on board. Muthoot Blue will replace Wrogn as Royal Challengers Bangalore’s title sponsor.
The Muthoot Pappachan Group is completely a different company than the Chennai Super Kings’ title sponsors – Muthoot Finance. The deal is estimated to be around INR 16 crores according to sources.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – JK Lakshmi
Sunrisers Hyderabad has moved on from online eyewear platform CoolWinks for a much lucrative deal with JK Lakshmi Cement. JK Lakshmi Cement was previously the title sponsor of Rajasthan Royals side.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has signed a lucrative deal – at a premium of up to 25% to 50% from the value of their respective contract last year.
The main reason why these sponsorship deals are valued so high because IPL is the premier sports league of India and it makes absolute sense for investors to invest in this kind as they are assured of their returns. The amount of marketing these brands receive is massive because when the biggest sportspersons promote your brands which will definitely be helpful for the business.
