One of the successful teams in the Indian football circuit in their short time, Bengaluru FC take the field once again in the Indian Super League. In their three seasons at the Indian top-flight, Bengaluru FC have made it to the playoffs all three times. Also, they have made it to the finals twice in a row and have a trophy to their name. The team will look to taste the victory once again in the pandemic-affected edition.
The Sree Kanteerava Stadium based outfit will start their campaign against FC Goa at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. Ahead of the game and the season, here is the SWOT Analysis of Bengaluru FC.
The main strength of the Carles Cuadrat managed side is their core-team, which has remained the same over the years. They have built the team around the likes of Sunil Chettri, Erik Paartalu and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and many others. The team also has two flashy wingers, Ashique Kuruniyan and Udanta Singh, at their disposal which can maraud in any defense with their pace.
Bengaluru FC struggled in the previous season without a proper backup front for Sunil Chettri. Though the team had the likes of Deshorn Brown and Manuel Onwu, they failed to leave the impression as Miku Fedor did in 2018/19. The team has gone with Semboi Haokip as an Indian backup striker whereas Cleiton Silva, the Brazilian import will have an important role to play this season.
For players like Edmund Lalrindika and Suresh Wangjum, the season will be a crucial one. A great season with the Bengaluru based franchise can earn them a national call-up. Also, Semboi Haokip will have a point to prove in a team filled with stars.
For any side, getting the five foreigners right in the Indian Super League is the biggest concern. Bengaluru FC is not an exception for that. With Albert Serrran leaving the club, Erik Paartalu’s role is still undefined. Also, if BFC goes with a foreign striker, the team might have to bench Ashique Kuruniyan and bring him on as a substitution later. The coach will have to take several crucial calls to get the right mix.
