After striking a deal with City Football Group, Mumbai City FC have splashed the cash in the transfer market ahead of the Indian Super League’s seventh edition. The club has roped in Sergio Lobera as their manager whereas the club were able to bring in Ogbeche and Fondre to the attacking department.

The club has remained as an underachiever throughout the tournament. They have qualified just once in six seasons for the playoffs. The inconsistency and failure in the transfer windows have affected the club in the past. The onus remains on Sergio Lobero after a fruitful time the club had under Jorge Costa.

Ahead of the seventh edition, here is the SWOT Analysis of Mumbai City FC.

The club has snapped up Sergio Lobera from FC Goa after the former Goan manager had a successful stint with FC Goa in 2019/20. The tactician has led the side to the AFC Champions League. The club will hope that the Spanish manager will lead Mumbai City FC too.

Mandar Rao Dessai and Farukh Chowdhury’s addition on a free transfer will strengthen the left-back and forward department.

The team has failed to sign the backup in the goalkeeping department. The team has only one prominent goalkeeper, Amrinder Singh and an injury to him will pose a challenge to the team. Also, the defense looks thin on paper as the club has no proven defenders apart from Martouda Fall, Mandar Rao Dessai Mehtab Singh in the central defense.

Mumbai City FC raked up Vikram Pratap Singh and Mohammad Rakip from Kerala Blasters on a free transfer. Both the players are highly-rated by Indian football fans and will have an opportunity to showcase the skills at the Indian top-flight.

Moudou Sougou and Paulo Machado left the club on a free transfer. This leaves the team short in the midfield. Though the club has signed the backups, the club will struggle in the absence of their loyal players. Also, the bio-bubble can be a serious threat for the players as they have to stay disconnected for five months.
