An advocate of numerous LGBT organizations, including the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and Athlete Ally, what Megan Rapinoe has done in football is unthinkable stuff, to say the least. The woman who is an idol of thousands of fans around the world captained her side to World Cup triumph in summer.
You might say Alex Morgan is the star but Rapinoe with ‘classy’ swag stepped up at the big occasion when her team needed her the most and scored twice against France in the quarter-final. The girl who was the ‘queen of knockout stages’ for the USA, also scored against Spain, not once but twice and led her team into the next round of World Cup. Well, we all love to talk about Lionel Andreas Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo but she is no less than them.
A world-class athlete who was in the peak of his career performed at the absolute big stage while some stars failed to. She went on to score six goals. She also won the World Cup Golden Ball and Golden Boot award. In a country where the President hates almost everything, Megan Rapione raised the voice for equal pay for girls. She is leading by example on and off the pitch. So many great players over the years failed as a leader.
Megan Rapinoe has it all
Their individual brilliance might have captivated the eyes of the spectators. But they haven’t been inspirational leaders like this US Girl. She is a born leader and has the power to take on everyone. World Cup, World Cup golden boot, World Cup golden ball, FIFA Women’s Player of the Year, Ballon d’Or
What more does she need? She has won it all. Congrats Megan for 2019 Women’s Ballon d’Or award. You deserve every bit of it for the incredible year you’ve had. #MeganRapinoe
