Prithvi Shaw is all set to join the India A team in New Zealand. He was in doubt for the tour due to a shoulder injury in the Ranji Trophy. However, he has recovered and is thereby fit to join the team.
Prithvi underwent rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He injured his shoulder against Karnataka earlier this month. But he now seems fit and has also resumed batting in the nets.
Prithvi could also be in contention for the senior team’s tour in New Zealand. The Indian team’s Test series begins subsequently after the A tour. India A is set to play a three-match one-day series. They will also play two four-day games. India plays New Zealand in the first Test on February 21 at Wellington.
Injury has halted Prithvi Shaw’s career
This is the second time Prithvi has faced injury in his career so far. Just before the tour of Australia in 2018, he tripped on his ankle in the field. Due to this he had to miss the entire series. Prithvi scored a hundred on his Test debut in the West Indies. He seemed to be the next big sensation for India in Test cricket. However, unfortunately, he has played only one more Test since his debut so far.
Prithvi also suffered another setback in 2019 as he was suspended for a doping violation. However, he returned to action soon. He played the Syed Mushtaq Ali and Ranji Trophy as well for Mumbai. In both tournaments, Prithvi has shown decent form.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya has also been pulled out of the India A squad recently. His rehab seems to be ” taking longer than expected”. As a result, Vijay Shankar replaces him in the squad. Prithvi will join the India A squad in New Zealand. He will be eyeing to present a strong case for a recall to the national side.
