Punjab Cricket Association has given contracts to 30 players for the upcoming season. The PCA has announced that it’ll be a Scholarship Scheme, where cricketers from both the genders would be contracted. As the BCCI has announced to have a short domestic season.

The PCA has quoted that the players would be classified in 3 different categories which are A, B, and C. The category A players would receive 8 lacks while the Category B players would receive 6 lacks. Category C players who would be given an INR 10,000 each per month.

Indian cricketers Shubman Gill and Siddharth Kaul will come under Category A. Moreover, Mandeep Singh and Gurkeerat Singh have also been placed in the same category.

At the same time, Harmanpreet Kaur and wicketkeeper Tanya Bhatia will fall under the same category. Even players who have represented India and India A team previously would also be handed out contracts.

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh appreciated the decision made by Punjab Cricket Association.

He said: “It is a great step by PCA. This would provide the state players security and also encourage them. This overhauling would help cricketers grow and concentrate on their game. Also, one takes a lot of pride in representing a state which is looking after you like that. The players are thrilled by this move. Some players don’t have jobs and are dependent on match fees only. So this annual contract system would cover their financial needs to an extent.”
