First time it happened during Juventus game in the Champions League against Lokomotiv Moscow. The Portuguese star was substituted by Maurizio Sarri when Juventus needed a goal. All good with Sarri and Ronaldo?
Now, it has happened for the second time within a week. Against Milan, the 5 times Ballon d’or winner was subbed off for Paulo Dybala. Ronaldo did not take it too well as you would expect. The 34-year-old forward jogged straight down the tunnel and reportedly left the Allianz Stadium before the final whistle in Turin.
Sarri has however clearly stated that Ronaldo is struggling with a knee injury that is affecting his performance. He strongly believes his frustrated reactions are a result of that.
The Juventus boss full statement to Sky Sports Italy. “We must thank Ronaldo, because he made a sacrifice to be there at all tonight in a difficult situation. He did everything possible to play, but I saw he was not well and thought it best to take him off.“
Sarri further added, “Over the last month, he has had this little knee problem, he had a knock in training and it hurt the collateral ligament. It is affecting his performances and he is not at his best at the moment“
Substitute Dybala’s well taken goal means Juventus remain a point ahead of Serie A title rivals Inter, going into the international break.
Juventus travel to Atlanta and Milan welcomes Napoli after the break on November 23rd.
