Bengal cricket’s latest sensation, the youngster Shahbaz Ahmed has put on a show in the ongoing Ranji Trophy which has been nothing short of a spectacle. The all-rounder has scored over 400 runs and has picked up 30 wickets.
Shahbaz Ahmed is also one of the major architects behind Bengal’s recent success in the Ranji Trophy. Ahead of the Ranji Trophy Final, we caught up with the 25-year-old batting all-rounder for a fun segment.

Q: Which has been your best cricketing moment so far?
“The Ranji Trophy game against Rajasthan where I remained unbeaten on 61 will always be memorable. The fact that I helped my team cross the line eventually makes it even more special.”
Q: Cricket record you want to set?
“Like any other youngster, I want to represent my country in the longest format of the game. I aspire to have an average of over 60 in Test matches at the end of my career.”
Q: Favourite gym workout?
“I love spending time in the gym, but one thing which I particularly love to do is goblet squats.”
Q: Do you idolise anyone outside of cricket?
“It has to be Usain Bolt because of his sheer dedication and hard work towards the sport which has always been a motivational factor for me.”
Q: Who is your cricketing hero?
“I look up to Ben Stokes as my idol. I want to emulate similar feats like the English all-rounder – the ability to win the game from any situation.”
Q: The two things you love about RCB?
“I’ve always been fascinated by seeing RCB play and the brand of cricket they display is a visual treat to watch. I love watching Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers bat together. To be playing alongside them is a dream come true for me.”
Q: Choose one – Breakfast with AB de Villiers or a gym session with Virat Kohli?
“Ugh, that’s a difficult question to answer. I’ve always admired AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. I would love to do both the things.”
