Stiaan van Zyl to miss Sussex’s 2020 season

South African cricketer David Wiese will also miss the Bob Willis Trophy

Stiaan Van Zyl with Sussex
Stiaan van Zyl will miss the 2020 County Championship due to unavailability of flights from South Africa. The player will stay in Cape Town and will have to skip the County Championship. Van Zyl will be available for the 2021 season. He joined the club in 2017. In 2019, he was the teams highest run-getter.

“With limited flights between South Africa and the UK, the country’s visa system down and a likely quarantine period necessary upon arrival, it was deemed sensible that van Zyl remained in Cape Town this summer,” the club said in a statement.

“While we will certainly miss the South African batsman, who scored two centuries for Sussex in 2019 and was our leading run-scorer in the County Championship, we look forward to welcoming him back to Hove next year,” the club’s statement added.

South African cricketer David Wiese will also miss the Bob Willis Trophy matches but is expected to join his squad for the T20 Blast. The schedule for the T20 Blast will be announced shortly.
