Athletics - April 30, 2019

The IAAF world relays championship, which begins on May 11 in Yokohama, Japan, will be the battle ground for the two sprinting powerhouse to go at it again. the two countries have released their full team lists in April, along with other countries such as France, Italy, Bahamas, japan and Britain. The USA and Jamaican team look a class above the others despite the fact that British squad’s potential in the men and women 4 x100 event, because of the likes of Adam Gemili, Zharnel Hughes, Ujah and Prescott, who have brought British sprinting into the light over the past few years.

The usa team looks really strong in the 4x 400 meter men’s section, with Paul Dedewo, 2018 IAAF world cup winner, Fred Kerley, the 2017 NCAA division 1 champion and a sub 44 man. Micheal Cherry, 44.6 personal best and mylik Kerley, the younger brother of Fred. This team though have to still be looking out as the Jamaicans, may have a stronger team for this event than the prior years. Nathan Allen and Demish Gaye 2017 world championship finalist are listed along the with the growing danger Akeem Bloomfield who has gone sub 44 and sub 20, being the fastest Jamaican since Rio 2016 in the 200 meters and second fastest in the 400 for the country.
The prediction is that USA will get away with this one to take gold.

The female section of the 4×400 has Jamaica in the lead with members of the silver medal Olympic team that went 3:20, meanwhile most of the quality from the united states team has gone.
USA has always been dominant, in the 4×400, and my prediction is that they will put up a fight but it will be too much for the Jamaicans and even the polish women.

This non traditional event has sparked interest in the previous editions in Bahamas, and in Japan you can expect it to be no different. the females look to be running this one, with the likes of shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Elaine Thompson combining with Shericka Jackson and Sasha-lee Forbes to make an unstoppable looking team, but the united states with the likes of Torie Bowie, Jenna Prandini and Dezerea Bryant listed, still could put on a show and making it possible to upstage the Caribbean women.
Prediction is that Jamaica will win and may also dip under their record from two years ago, 1:29.04 with three members of that team returning and shelly Ann returning to replace Jura levy.
The men side however, will be closer because of the fact that more of the big names being on the American side, such as Noah Lyles, the enigmatic sprinter that went 19.6 last year tops the list as well as Ameer webb 2017 national 200 meter champion, and has a personal best 19.85 along with Josephus Lyles, Remontay McClain and Vernon Norwood. Jamaica’s in best 200 meter runner on recent form is Julian Forte and his personal best is 19.97 and that was three years ago, however they have Rasheed Dwyer who may be past his best but is still a dangerous sprinter, the former commonwealth gold medalist has a personal best of 19.8 join forte along with Nigel Ellis and Oshane Bailey making up a good quartet.
The prediction is that USA will escape with this one due to the fact that their sprinters are on form.

The blue ribbon event of this Championship, this has been hotly contested by all nations involved, therefore, teams like Japan and Britain could find their way in a gold medal position, even with the powerhouse involved.
The prediction is for a united states gold in the female section, because of the fact that they always seem to find new stars in the middle of championships and this could possibly happen given the fact there are a lot of young women coming to the fore this year, and this is not due to little quality of Jamaican women sprinters, it is more like the under performing that we’ve gotten accustomed to over recent years.

The men may also face the same fate but with Blake, having regained confidence after talking to his former coach Glen Mills, there could be problems for USA. Justin Gatlin, Cameron Burrel, Christopher Belcher, Bryce Robinson they could pose a problem.
The prediction however is that Jamaican men will take this one and Britain will get the silver, and united states and japan facing off for the Bronze.
The two day relay carnival will definitely be exciting and you can expect drama to be there, as well as excitement. Remember to get regular updates on proceedings and other previews here at sportsnewsquest.
