Earlier today we did a preview of the game. This time there was no stoppage-time equaliser for Team India this time as they succumbed to a defeat against Oman in the World Cup qualifier.
This result puts the Blue Tigers all but out for the 2022 World Cup.
The game started in 5th gear with both teams going close in the opening moments. Oman has rewarded a penalty on the 7th minute only for Muhsen to fire it wide. Brandon created a good chance but Sunil Chhetri wasn’t able to capitalise as the score remained 0-0. Vinit Rai came on to replace Pranoy Halder who seemed to pick up an injury.
Mohsen eventually got his goal after being played on by Al Khaldi to give Oman the lead. Things turned from bad to worse for Team India as defender Adil Khan was picked up an injury as well. Kerela Defender Anas Edathokida came in as his replacement.
The scoreline remained 1-0 in favour of Oman at the Half Time break.
India looking for an early second-half goal started the half in the front foot. A dangerous-looking free-kick from Brandon was cleared by the host’s resilient defence. It was Oman who created the first clear cut opportunity from Al Khaldi’s free-kick, but Gurpreet was equal to it. Igor Stimac replaced Sarthak with Rahul Bheke to add some urgency into the game.
Oman went close again and Gurpreet again pulled made a fine stop to India in the game. Brandon tried, Ashiqui tried but all was in vain as the visitors ran out of time.
The game finishes 1-0 in favour of Oman. In depth article can be found here.
