India national men’s team will face Oman in Muscat in a game that can put an end to this whole miserable campaign. After 4 games, the blue tigers have remained win-less and just have 3 points to their name.
Apart from the heroic performances collectively pulled by the team against Asian champions Qatar, the team’s performance has just gone from bad to worse. A late second half goal to save face against Bangladesh and another dying moment goal against Afghanistan to salvage a draw just makes the campaign more forgettable.

What to expect:
In what literally seems to be the do or die game, anything but a win would send India out of the 2022 world cup qualifiers. Since the qualifiers also act as the 2023 Asian Cup preliminary qualifiers, coming 3rd in the group would guarantee a 3rd round berth in Asian Cup qualifiers. A draw against Oman might help this cause, but a loss will even make the Asian qualifications harder.
While India are coming off a dismal 1-1 against Afghanistan, Oman will be going into the game on the back of a thumping 4-1 against Bangladesh.

India last won against Oman in 1994 and although history can change in a stroke, it remains a tough challenge. Especially with coach Stimac’s defensive and downplaying attitude continuing from over the weekend.
